Beginning with sculpting the skull and superficial muscles, including those of the neck and upper chest, students will learn the anatomy of the head. A method of blocking the planes of the head and an in depth study of individual features will be presented. Pointing, a traditional system of measuring dimensions with calipers will be taught while working directly with the model in both three dimensions and in bas-relief. Armature building, tools, modeling techniques, and preparation of pieces for firing will be discussed.
