A good landscape painting is like a poem. How? Come and find out! We will paint in plein air and in the studio. Students will have fun gaining knowledge and skill painting pochades outdoors and larger studio pieces indoors. We will learn the how, why and what of good design, keying in a painting, the importance of composition, color, memory and decision making. We will focus on seeing and painting the four value planes and 5 types of light while working with a limited palette for control and color harmony. The class includes short lectures, demos, and enjoyable student exercises. Every good painting has a good design. Working toward that from the very first thought is critical. Lacking a plan for even a small work means you may just be spending time, instead of investing it with a purpose for a result that will last. If you are an experienced painter, your painting will improve drastically. If you are a beginner, you will be starting out on the right foot.
