Frozen River by Tom Glover

When this class starts we will be knee deep in the white stuff! Observational skills will be put to the test as we explore the effects of snow on the landscape. Several major artists will be referenced to help give us clues in observing snow: its effects on water, buildings, the ocean, trees, fields, streets and so on. Please be photographing as we will not be tramping around outside, but will have to rely on photographs to help catapult our imaginations into capturing snow and all of its colors and textures. Oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor accepted. Students will be encouraged to work on more than one image in class. We will talk about formal aspects of painting—color mixing, composing, wet-on-wet techniques; scumbling, glazing, washes and so on. Beginners welcome!
