ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM
Tom Glover,
10 Weeks
Monday 6 - 9
January 29 – April 2
Tuition $300

Fenway by Tom Glover

We will be focusing on some key artists of the movement to explore in depth the whole notion of Abstract Expressionism and its historical impact on painting today. Early 20th century painting will be a general topic discussion to see how the many influences of modern thought, technology and politics helped lay the groundwork for the development of Abstract Expressionism. As we discuss various artists each student may find abstract work they respond to and use that influence to create a body of work. It may be grappling with a theme, various techniques, juggling pictorial elements, or focusing on color to enhance expression. It can also be taking what you have already been painting and evolve the subject matter into more expressive and abstract work. Oil, acrylic, watercolor. Students are encouraged to bring more than one painting/canvas/substrate to work on each week, especially if working in oils.
