Dories, Flounder and Grannies by Tom Glover

With a focus on color and learning about abstract painters from the past, we will use the wide variety of subject matter found here close to home. Our laboratory will be the ocean, tide pools, docks, mudflats, bridges, rivers, rocks and detritus of the shoreline. This will be a class about experimentation, exploration and a little fun! In part we will look at and discuss what abstraction is all about and perhaps hint at where it might be going. In particular we will talk about color and its evolution through the development of abstract painting. By studying abstract painters of the past we can inform ourselves as to the blossoming of abstraction through the last 140 years or so. Oils, acrylics, watercolor and collage all accepted. Plan on doing/working on more than one painting per class. And perhaps working on paintings for several weeks at a time. Abstract paintings evolve! Canvas, canvas boards or gessoed hardboard/alpha matboard work fine to paint on.
