This class will focus on developing the skills to represent the figure with convincing realism. Students will work with a live model while creating a highly finished figure drawing. Proportion, anatomy, and the nature of light will be among the concepts covered. Although this is a drawing course, students who have previously worked with the instructor, or who have similar experience, may choose to work in oil paint. This class is based on the classical atelier system of training painters. While the work covered is largely academic, artists as disparate as JeanLéon Gérôme, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt and Pablo Picasso all trained in this system.
