SA 3 SKETCHBOOK ADVENTURE: PEN & INK & WATERCOLOR with Bill Paarlberg
6 Weeks
Tuesday 9 - 12
March 25 – April 29
With pen and ink we draw lines and textures. With watercolor we add color and more subtle values. The two media together are an exciting combination that play off each other for both dynamic and understated effects. Which goes down first, the ink or the watercolor? What are the best pens and inks to use? What if we use color inks for line or wash? What if we just use a gray or sepia wash on an ink drawing? Which subjects lend themselves more to which combinations of media? We will explore all these questions with the help of our sketchbooks, the study of other artists’ work, and weekly demonstrations. There will be homework to encourage daily practice. We will work indoors, unless if on occasion the weather is unusually fine. This class is open to participants at all levels of experience. A materials list will be provided upon registration.
