Fall 2022
We’ve had a great summer- lots of classes- many meeting outdoors for plein air painting. Fall ushers in more indoor art endeavors, except for a class with Bill Paarlberg who loves painting and drawing outdoors in his Sketchbook. Bill’s Sketchbook Adventures (SA 4) should entice others who are reluctant to give up the great outdoors, venturing out to seacoast locations with the media of their choice.
New for Fall is Bronze Casting- Holiday Ornaments (SA 20) taught by Green Foundry proprietors Lauren and Josh Dow. Starting by creating a small original sculpture in oil based clay, students will make plaster molds to cast wax copies in. Come learn the lost wax process as you cast your ornaments in bronze on a fun, fiery eve.
Joshua Langstaff offers How to Draw What you See (SA 7), a class he wishes all of his students would take. It’s a class I need to take to refresh my classical drawing skills, or lack thereof. He’s also offering Classical Figure Drawing (& Painting) (SA 8). Working with a live model, students will learn to create a highly finished figure drawing. Those who have previously worked with Josh or who have similar experience are welcome to work in oil paint.
Anthony Alemany is excited to teach Sculpting the Torso from Life (SA 12). Working in ¾ scale, student will learn to build armatures, follow along as Anthony demonstrates modeling techniques and teaches anatomy, and proportions while working with a live model.
Amanda Rouse returns to offer Indigo Dyeing (SA 15). You will learn Shibori, the Japanese tradition of folding and manipulating fabrics to make intricate patterns for dyeing. Come away with some beautiful naturally dyed garments and the knowledge to continue making them on your own.
Alice Carroll continues to offer Saturday jewelry workshops as well as her Jewelry & Metalsmithing (SA 16) class. Forged Ginko Leaf with Bezel Pendant (SA 17) and Prong Set Cabachon Gemstone Pendant are the two on offer this Fall. No prior experience is necessary to learn to make some beautiful pieces for yourself.
We offer 20 classes and workshops this Fall- something to ring any one’s bell. We also are pleased to be able to offer scholarships for adults and full scholarships for high school students through our non profit Sanctuary Arts Connects- www.sanctuaryartsconnects.com.
Cheers,
Christopher
