Fall 2023

Joshua Langstaff

Because I am in love with figure painting, I’ll be taking Figure Painting in Oil (SA 6) with Joshua Langstaff, an instructor whose own work continues to astound me. Joshua is a skilled instructor as well, generous with his knowledge, giving insightful critiques that encourage students to go beyond what they think they are capable of creating. Come join me!

Russel Whitten

Watercolorist Russel Whitten will also be incorporating the figure into his Plein Air & Figure Watercolor (SA 4) class. Beginning with plein air for the good weather outdoors and then morphing into Figure watercolor as the weather becomes inclement, Russel will guide students, with plenty of demonstrations, through the challenges of both subjects.

Joshua Langstaff offers How to Draw What you See (SA 7), a class he wishes all of his students would take. It’s a class I need to take to refresh my classical drawing skills, or lack thereof. He’s also offering Classical Figure Drawing (& Painting) (SA 8). Working with a live model, students will learn to create a highly finished figure drawing. Those who have previously worked with Josh or who have similar experience are welcome to work in oil paint.

Anthony Alemany offers two figure sculpture classes. Sculpting the Standing Male Nude (SA 14) and Portrait Sculpting (High School Students) (SA 15). Anthony is a gifted artist and marvelous figure instructor. I’ve watched him as he goes from strength to strength, improving with each new creative endeavor and commission. I am particularly excited about his class for High School students, which offers scholarship help for everyone who needs one.

Anthony Alemany

Tom Glover has expanded his offerings to two classes this Fall; Exploring Collage (SA 1) and Still Life: A Second Look (SA 2). Tom has an ardent student following and these two classes should offer something for all of his admirers. His Exploring Collage class description recalls Robert Motherwell wondering why he took to collage like a duck takes to water and then realizing that he sat in a café in Paris with Picasso as Picasso, the inventor of modern day collage, sat and created collages right there at the table. Come explore collage and abstraction using your own collected materials and found objects.

We welcome a new young and enthusiastic instructor, Isabel Ardito Lebo, who will teach a Rug Hooking Workshop (SA 22). Isabel channels the anxieties of existence into her artistic endeavors, delving into both the comical and unsettling aspects of human experiences with an inquisitive and interconnected approach. This should be a class where you can have a lot of fun while learning the fundamentals of rug hooking, discovering techniques that will enable you to craft a beautiful and unique rug.

We offer 22 classes for nearly every predilection. Peruse our offerings to find the class that is best for you.

Cheers,

Christopher
