Maine skies offer ever-changing moments of remarkable atmosphere and light. The blue intensity of a cloudless day, sudden storms, mist, glowing horizons, moonscapes…watercolor is the perfect medium for capturing the mood that they inspire. Once the mood is set, add simple landscape elements such as water, trees, rocks… that will enhance the illusion of light in the sky. Whether your sky becomes part of a landscape or seascape, finding the right blend of when to be loose and when to use more control will be different for everyone. Learn when to pause to avoid overworking your paintings and develop contrast and detail to pull the image together.
